Rough Cut: Visions

This the rough cut of the teaser trailer which is a half complete version of the official teaser trailer. This was what we had done before a professional editor came in and gave us some advice about what can be changed and improved. Using his advice and following the codes and conventions we sat down as a group to complete the final version and make all the changes, The sound bridge is a problem in this version and the ending is not complete. In the final version all these issues will be addressed therefore giving us the final official teaser trailer for our film.

Mood-Board

A mood-board is an arrangement of images, materials, pieces of text, etc. intended to evoke or project a particular style or concept. This mood board is to show the theme of the teaser trailer that we are going to produce. As our teaser trailer was based on supernatural and visions I decided to put some visuals of an eye to connote the theme of the trailer. Some of the visuals are similar to the shots that we have done which makes the mood-board even more relevant. As the main theme was horror I had to keep very close to it. For instance, on the top left is an image of a woman being dragged which is very similar to the mother in our film who will be dragged by someone in the teaser it gives a sense of ambiguity and keeps the audience stick to the film. The text on the top right quotes "you won't believe her eyes". This indicates suspense for the audience about what is wrong with the girl. It creates a sense of scare for the audience wanting to go and watch more to find out. The candles burnt out are conventions of horror which connotes maybe the hope that the character has or just the end of something. The mood board mainly consists of images of eyes as our teaser revolves around eyes and visions.

Post-Production Day 4

This was the last day of our editing where it was all about going back at our work and reflecting on what we can improve or add on in the teaser. Additionally, as our teacher knew we were near the finish, in order to help us with the final product she invited a professional editor to come in to school to provide us with some professional feedback on how we can make the teaser trailer better. This was helpful because when someone from the outside comes and looks at your work the feedback that follows is fresh and reliable as we ourselves when editing look at it so many times that there might be details that can be missed. The editor told us few things after he looked at our teaser trailer which I wrote down as he was pointing things out, this would as a result help us to remember the things we needed to do and would allow us to keep record of it.

He suggested we make a few shots shorter as they were too long which was making it boring and not so appealing. Another suggestion was to add on text cards in the middle of a few shots. This we all agreed to as we realised that before the title cards the story line of the trailer was not clear enough. Even though it is a horror trailer it still has to make sense to the audience to keep them hooked. Adding the title cards made the story line clear and allowed the audience to understand the main aspect of the film. Also, for one scene where we had just put the shot of a book with its pages flipping and the shot of the someone holding the candle. The shots in itself looked incomplete so as a result we combined them together using the opaque tool on Final Cut pro to help us put one shot on top of the other by reducing one of the shots opacity. This came out as very well and the shot looked better and more attractive now.

Overall, on the last day we were able to get some quality feedback from a professional and it allowed us to reflect on our work closely and make the changes as necessary. This day was the most productive as all the group members were there and we were able to reflect on our work and improve it likewise.

Post-Production: Day 3

The third day of editing involved adding transitions and sound to the film to make it look more effective. On this day we edited at one of our members house where they had a big screen on which we could see the film. This allowed us to then have better and clear access to the film and also helped us to see how it will look when on the big screen. this also provided all of us the access to the film as we were able to see the film on the big screen it enabled us to give more feedback to the editing person.

The main focus on this day was sound, as myself and one of my group member had worked on it before in the previous editing day we went back on to those sounds and researched some new ones to make a choice for our final piece. There were many different sounds we listened to but it was very challenging to decide which one to pick for the film. We were looking at a sound which would compliment the video as we did not want to set our video according to the sound. At the end we were successful in picking some of the good sounds for our film which we thought were good for the teaser.

Post-Production Day 2

The second day of our editing involved putting all the shots that we had chose in the first day of editing together. This was an essential part as this was the way to know what order we want our shots to be in. However, on the second day we also decided that we will split in to pairs and two of us will find music and sound effects whereas two of us will focus on the editing and putting all shots together in right order. This was helpful as we were then able to do two different things at the same time, which saved a lot of time as well. Myself and Jeet were looking at the footage and deciding which order the shots should be put in. After the shots were put together, the next bit was to add transitions and cut down the shots that we had taken.
The problem that we faced on that day was that the shots that we had taken were too long, it took us a lot of time to cut them down and put them in the right order. Also, it took a bit of time to understand how to use final cut pro. To make it a little bit easy, myself and my group downloaded some introduction to final cut pro and videos to help us understand how to use it effectively. I have used Final Cut Pro before so I was familiar with some of the functions of the app but because it was a new version we were using it took all of us time to get handy with it.
The Shots we were using for our teaser trailer were cut down to the length of approximately 1-3 seconds as we had to make sure the shots do not give away too much information about the film. After we had cut down the shots and put them together, we then experimented with some visual effects and transitions between each shot. The visual effects included flashes on the very first scene of the eye which then changed color to white. furthermore, whilst this was being done, we managed to find some music that we thought would match the scenes and compliment the teaser trailer. We decided to give music priority as we did not want to leave to last minute where we would have to fit in the music. We wanted to make sure the music is right for each of the shots separately and matches well. Overall, the second day was a bit hectic but we managed to get good amount of work done.
